Blaine High School
Weekly Bulletin

December 15 - December 20

Winter Updates
Parents: It is getting to be that time of year again. As the temperature gets colder the possibility of more of that wonderful white stuff becomes a concern for the school district about whether we should have school or not. There are many different ways to check on school closures: the district has a Snow Hotline @ 332-0789, check the district website at www.blainesd.org or listen to radio stations such as KARI 550 AM, KGMI 790 AM, KPUG 1170 AM, or KAFE 104.3 FM. All this information is also on the school district calendar.

Bellingham Technical College
Bellingham Technical College will be giving their placement test for Blaine High School students on Tuesday, December 16 during 2nd and 3rd periods in the high school library. All students are welcome to take this test, but there are only so many spots available. Sign up in the career center with Mr. Shockey.

Senior Parents
If your student is interested in any type of school after graduation, students and parents need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA. Students and parents should be getting a signature PIN now and filling out the worksheet. It can be submitted via the Internet on January 1. Schools have a deadline for receiving the FAFSA, and the sooner it is received the better the chance of receiving funds. To apply for the PIN number you need to go to www.fafsa.ed.gov There will be a FAFSA on the web worksheet handed out to all seniors before Christmas break so parents can fill it out ASAP on January 1, 2008. Remember that when you submit the FAFSA you place in line is locked, so you can be eligible for grants and other funds.

SENIORS - During Christmas Break
Seniors: Request letters of recommendation as soon as possible from teachers and community leaders. Look through the Internet and search for scholarships. Work on your college applications as many are due beginning January 15. Register for a Pin number for the FAFSA, along with your parents. Fill out the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, 2008. Check with prospective schools about additional financial aid application forms and requirements.

Seniors
Senior Parents, don't forget to congratulate your son or daughter or wish a special group of seniors good luck as they venture on to "bigger and better" things. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, neighbors, etc. can purchase advertising space in the yearbook IN COLOR. Buying a Senior Dedication Ad to express your feelings of pride, love, and admiration for your senior is a special and lasting memory he or she will remember forever. Ad Contracts can be picked up in the high school office or see Mrs. Bleecker for details. Deadline is January 5th, 2009.

Freshman Scholarship
This is just a reminder about the INCREDIBLE WA State College Bound Scholarship opportunity that has been extended for ONE year (08-09) to capture eligible 9th graders who might qualify for this fully paid tuition scholarship opportunity. In these economic times, its critical to let income eligible students and their families know about the opportunity – a way to pay for college (2 yr, 4yr, or other types of vocational training programs) that may financially be out of reach without this opportunity. Any questions please contact Mr. Shockey.
