A message from the superintendent:

Good Morning Families, Students, Families and Communit Members,

As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to dominate the news, we have experienced an increase in concern being expressed by parents and staff in Blaine School District. I would like to start by assuring our community that I, and members of our staff, have been closely monitoring the developing situation. We have participated in briefings for public health officials since the first case was documented in the United States. There are no cases in Whatcom County presently, and no evidence that COVID-19 is currently spreading in our state. The message from the start has been consistent and remains: risk to the general public is low at this time, and it is important to rely on prevention. The best prevention methods are those used for other well-known viruses - you may hear them referred to as NPI's or non pharmaceutical interventions - and include frequent hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when ill.

The Whatcom County Health Department has done an outstanding job of spearheading actions in our area, keeping all public officials well informed. We will continue to actively assess all information and remain in communication with health experts. We are prepared for potential changes to the situation and will follow any recommendations they might make. The safety and overall wellbeing of our students and staff is our number one priority.

Sincerely,

Dr. Christopher Granger
