2020-2021 Survey

Here is what we know about the start of the 2020-2021 school year as of 9:00 P.M., Friday, June 19, 2020;

  • Schools have been told to reopen, with 6 ft of social distancing between students in a classroom setting

  • The size of our classrooms create a limitation of anywhere from 10-15 students with social distancing applied

  • The above means a hybrid model of learning will likely be required for the start of the 2020-2021 school year

  • Based on survey and focus group feedback, and considering the best possible standard of health, we expect to offer an A Group/B Group, Monday - Thursday schedule, with students in the building on alternating weeks (rather than days), with the intent of keeping students from the same household on the same days

  • Current guidance from the Health Department is clear that cloth face coverings will be required for students unless a medical exemption exists

  • Blaine School District is working on offering a new and entirely online model of learning for those families who choose not to send their children to face to face learning in the building.

In order for the district to begin diving into the details and answer the many questions we know you still have, we need to have a good understanding of how many of our students will come to the building and how many will move to our online model, based on the information above. I want to be clear, we have heard you loudly and clearly that what we present in the Fall cannot look like the Spring of this school year. Our administration and our teachers are in agreement. In a stakeholder meeting with teachers this week a clear theme emerged, and it will become the hallmark of our plans moving forward. The Three C’s: Curriculum, Connection and Consistency. We will provide a model of learning, both online and for those alternating weeks in person, that focuses on these needs. We hope that if you are considering moving to online with your student(s), you will stay with us and let us provide your child with those Three C’s, because providing your child with the best possible education is our commitment to you.

The information we need from you is in the attached survey. Please remember we are basing this on the assumption of the above. We are at the point in the planning process of needing to know what you plan to do next year. We understand changing guidance could still come our way, and if it does we will jump on the opportunity to have all of our students back in the building at one time. For now, however, we need to get farther into the work on our alternate plan. We understand you may change your mind after completing this survey, but we hope, for the most part, people will know what they expect to do in August. We will be asking families to commit to one of the two models using a registration process that we hope to have online in July, with a deadline of August 1, 2020 in order to finalize student needs and allow for chromebook deployment before the start of school on August 26, 2020.
