peace arch inside orange circle

Good evening students, staff, families and community,

Yesterday, December 16, 2020, Governor Inslee, along with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Department of Health, released new recommendations for the safe re-opening of schools in our state during a press conference. Many of the measures discussed are things already occurring in our district, including the return to hybrid learning for our youngest learners. We are working to refine those items that included changes from previous guidance.

Several new and/or updated documents came out of yesterday’s announcement. The Department of Health has released new Tools to Prepare for Provision of In Person Learning among K-12 Students at Public and Private Schools during the COVID-19 Pandemic which include new metrics for determining moderate and high levels of COVID-19 in a community. They have also made updates to the “K-12 Schools 2020 2021 Guidance”. In addition, the Governor issued Proclamation 20-09.3

Our administrators have been reviewing these documents and all those linked to within them, as we work to determine our next steps and develop a plan. In the next 24 hours our administrators will be continuing to work collaboratively with all involved. We will be meeting with the Whatcom County Health Department as well as our represented labor groups.

We will provide an update to our families as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Dr. Christopher Granger, Superintendent
