Good evening students, staff, families and community,

This week has successfully wrapped up the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. We can not thank our staff and families enough for all they have done to make good things happen for students in the Blaine School District. While we know the many challenges we continue to face are not ideal, we will continue to face them together and collaboratively.

With the beginning of the second semester we have made adjustments to student schedules for those families who requested their students return to hybrid in-person learning through the December survey. Emails were sent through the Skyward system to those families letting you know which week, A or B, your student(s) have been assigned to. This upcoming week, beginning Monday, January 25th, is an A week. In addition to knowing the week your student is on we ask all families to check their busing information in Skyward as there have been some route adjustments with an increase of students coming back to the building.

We ask that you please review our COVID-19 page to be familiar with the screening process. Each student who comes to the building needs to complete a daily wellness screening through the Skyward application before 7:00 am. Also, remember for students in grades PK-5, the screening needs to be completed by the parent or guardian. Over this week we have had an increase in the number of students in PK-5 whose screenings were not completed. In that circumstance the student is unable to enter the classroom setting for the health and safety of all, and is supervised in a waiting area away from others until a parent or guardian can be reached to complete the screening. That’s just no fun for anyone, so please help us by remembering your wellness screening each morning.

With possible snow in the forecast for this weekend and the coming week, now is a good time to review our plan for inclement weather. If it is determined the safety of students and staff would be best served by staying off the roadways and not traveling to campus, we will call for a remote learning day for all students. This means your students would engage with learning the way they did when we started the school year, with all students working remotely. In an effort to assist with planning we will make every attempt to make the decision by 9:00 pm the evening before. Please follow our social media, subscribe to your students’ school through our app or listen for an announcement on the local radio. If you have any questions please reach out to your teachers and campus administrators.

I’m looking forward to a great second half of the school year serving the students and families of our district. It’s a great night to be a Borderite, and, as always, a great night to be your superintendent.
