Dr. Granger's Community Message, March 5, 2021

Good evening students, staff, families and community,

As we move into March, our preparations are ongoing for the 2021-2022 school year. The 2021-2022 school calendar is now posted on the school website to assist families with planning and preparation.

Parent Input Planning Survey
As part of our preparations for the new school year, parents are invited to share your input by participating in our planning survey which can be accessed here. The survey’s questions are mostly open-ended to give you the opportunity to share specific responses in providing us with your feedback. We would greatly appreciate you completing this survey before March 14, 2021. Although we remain committed to getting all students back in school everyday, we also need to plan for the possibility of continuing on a hybrid schedule based upon health and safety guidelines.

6th - 12th Grade Student Survey
OSPI is offering an opportunity for students in Grades 6 to 12 to share their feedback, too, through a new student perspective survey which will be administered by schools between March 8-26. Topics on the survey include but are not limited to social support, remote learning experience, mental health, physical health, COVID-19 precautions, and substance use. This survey does not replace the Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) that will be administered in the fall of 2021. Instead, it uniquely collects information from students about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Upcoming Non-School Days

  • Friday, March 12 - unused closure make-up day
  • Friday, March 26 - unused closure make-up day
  • Week of April 5-9 - Spring Break

Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) is Back!
Don’t miss this opportunity to get money for meals missed by students at school during the 2020-2021 school year. If your child is eligible for free or reduced-price school meals, then your child may be eligible for P-EBT during this school year. P-EBT is money that can be used to buy food for your children. Visit www.dshs.wa.gov/pebt to learn more about the P-EBT program and how to apply. You may also call the P-EBT Contact Center at 1-833-518-0282 with questions. If you need this information in another language, please call 1-833-518-0282.

We appreciate the opportunity to hear from you as we review this year and look forward to next year. Thank you for those who have been joining our Community Q&A sessions. I am glad to connect with our families and work together. It’s a great night to be a Borderite, and, as always, a great night to be your superintendent.
