Dr. Granger's Community Message May 7, 2021

Good evening students, staff, families and community,

Thank you to all those who were able to join us this past week for the Community Q&A and Senior Information Night. We are so excited to be planning an in-person graduation ceremony for our seniors, as well as for all students to be in the building every day for full days in the 2021-2022 school year.

2021-2022 Planning: Learning Model Choice
This is a reminder if you have not completed the learning model survey for the 2021-2022 school year, it is open until May 14 (next Friday). We will begin reviewing that information on Friday and reaching out to families as needed. As our goal is to have all of our students in class, all day, five days a week in the 2021-2022 school year, all students will be assigned to in-person learning as the default response.

Preparing Your School-Issued Chromebook and Accessories for Return
All Chromebooks issued to students for the 2020-2021 school year must be returned prior to summer break. At the beginning of June, all hybrid students will be required to leave their school-issued Chromebooks at school at the end of each day. Chromebooks will be collected by the BSD Tech Department and all returns reconciled prior to June 17th.

Athletics
After the completion of a successful season in many of our outdoor sports at the high school level, we are preparing for the next season which will include high school boys and girls basketball and wrestling as well as middle school football and softball. Please visit the Athletic Department page on the district’s website for more information.

Student Vaccine Opportunity at Rite Aid
While the COVID vaccine is not listed as a required vaccination for school, we want to share information about a local option with our families who may be interested in a vaccine for students ages 16 and 17.

Starting this Sunday, May 9, Rite Aid will be offering Pfizer vaccine on Sundays to 16 and 17-year-olds in the Blaine/Birch Bay area. If you know of a student who is looking for a vaccine, you can refer them to the Rite Aid on Boblett Street. They can stop by on Sundays between the hours of 11am-5pm to get their vaccine. There will be a limited amount of Pfizer vaccine made available each Sunday for students. Parent consent is required.

Summer 2021 Resources
With summer rapidly approaching, we are beginning to put together resources for students in the areas of literacy and math. Stay tuned for more details coming soon on ways your student can engage in learning activities over the summer.

Also, we are beginning to plan our summer athletic activities to encourage our students to be active this summer. We are developing plans under the current guidance and hope to release details soon!
