Suicide Prevention

On September 17, fifteen Blaine School District counselors, administrators, psychologists, nurses and health teachers participated in a Signs of Suicide (SOS) training. SOS is a nationally recognized, evidence based program that supports schools and communities in their suicide prevention efforts by providing specific information about mental health needs, warning signs, risk factors and protective factors in students.

In October, during the Late Start days, trained staff members will provide SOS training to all teachers and support staff across the district.

Future plans include sharing information about SOS with Middle School and High School students as well as interested parents, families and community members. Stay tuned for more information about this valuable program.
