That being said, this student will not be permitted to return to school until an extended investigation into this matter can be conducted. At this time there is not a projected timeframe for the student to be allowed to return to school. The safety of students and staff remains our highest priority.

With the extended number of days lost to inclement weather during the month of February, five (5) to date in our case, Whatcom County districts are starting the process of projecting calendar implications. Our 2018-19 calendar calls for the first three days lost to be made up on June 14-17-18, and that is what we anticipate at this time. As the additional two days are eligible for waiver application to OSPI, we are in the process of considering recommendation of said application to the Board. Once approved by OSPI, and provided that there are no additional days lost, we can move forward with formal designation of June 18 as the final day of the current school year.

Blaine School District is cancelling school on Thursday, February 14. Our maintenance and grounds staff have done an incredible job of removing 12-14 inches of snow off of campus parking lots and sidewalks over the past three days. However, there remains too much compact snow and ice across many areas of the District to be able to run our busses safely, especially on secondary roads. Once school resumes next week, we will start the process of determining the impact of this extended storm on the school calendar. Please stay safe, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.
