Varsity Chess Team

The State Chess Tournament took place in Stanwood last weekend, and our community was well represented by the BHS Varsity Chess Team. It was an exciting event, with the field comprised of 26 teams from all over Washington State.  Our team had the opportunity to play many top notch teams from Seattle.  They brought enthusiasm and energy to the State Chess Tournament and learned a lot. Everyone had a really great time, and the team has vowed to be ready to come back stronger with more experience next year.

Freshman Carson Roesch won a plaque for First Team All Star. Carson also went undefeated in the state tournament, scoring an impressive 4.5 out of 5 points, with his only draw to a National Master. (National Masters comprise less than 1 percent of players in the United States, and there are only 866 National Masters currently active).  Carson hopes to achieve this title before he graduates High School.  We have no doubt he will do just that!

Congratulations to all our students who participated in chess this year. Thank you for being stellar representatives of our Borderite Community.
