chess match

Good evening students, staff, families and community,

Here are a few of the things happening around the district this week;

Varsity Chess Team Headed to State!

The BHS Varsity Chess Team is headed to the Washington High School Chess Association’s State Championship in Stanwood on March 4th and 5th.

Here’s what their coach Mr. Roesch had to say following their impressive appearance at the qualifying match. “First, I would like to say how proud I am of our entire team.  We started the season with a very young team, no returning students and pretty much our entire team was new to the game. The prospects of making the state tournament looked slim as we needed to build a strong foundation. We entered our final meet with the pressure on as we were just 1 point out of state contention. The varsity started out their first match against a strong Sehome team.  We finally had our entire team back and fully healthy. After a season of hard work and constant practicing, they came out strong, playing 5 close matches and winning 3 of them, beating out Sehome. With their confidence boosted,  the Varsity then went on to sweep Meridian scoring an impressive 5 out of 5 points and solidifying a spot in the state championship! Great job, go Borderites!”

Congratulations and the best of luck to the varsity team members; Carson Roesch - Grade 9, Shawn Waters - Grade 9, Maddy Reiss - Grade 10, Owen Millsap - Grade 11 and Xander Hodges - Grade 10. We have no doubt your hard work this season will be evident to all!

Boys Basketball Makes Another Stop on Road to State

The Borderite boys basketball team will take on Wahluke High School at 4:00 P.M. at Mt. Vernon High School on Saturday. You can view the Regional and State Tournament brackets to follow the Borderites, purchase tickets to see the team play in person Saturday, or watch them play online with a subscription to the NFHS Network. (There is a cost for a subscription to watch on NFHS, but it will include all State Tournament games.) BHS ASB is encouraging those students who have a “State T-shirt” to wear it to the game Saturday, along with neon accessories - or just wear lots of neon!
