Air Quality Impacts

Dear students, families and community,

Air quality conditions in our area require us to make some changes to our outdoor activities again today. PE classes and recess times remained indoors today. Anyone concerned about their individual student's health in regard to the air quality is encouraged to reach out to the student's school.

Middle School athletics have been canceled for our students today.

We will be permitting high school soccer and football practices after school with some modifications based on health department recommendations. Those families will hear directly from their coaches with specifics. Due to better air quality at the location of their meet, BHS Cross Country left on schedule today for that competition.

We know changes to after school activities may be challenging, but we work to do everything we can to keep our kids safe and engaged in their activities. We use the Department of Ecology Air Monitoring Network to check air quality and the Washington Department of Health Guidelines to help us make decisions for our district programs.

With rain now predicted in the forecast tomorrow, we are hopeful for an improvement to air quality. However, a possibility still exists for necessary changes again tomorrow, and we will make any announcements as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your student’s principal regarding school day activities, or Coach Kok regarding athletic activities.

Thank you,

Dr. Christopher Granger
