BHS Club Sign-ups will be taking place this Friday (8/31) during activity time. Below is a description of all the clubs offered at BHS. Hopefully there is one or two clubs that will interest you. It's a great way to meet new friends and take more pride in being a part of the Borderite community. GET INVOLVED!! GO BORDERITES!!

Art Club - Mr. B. Smith (Art Rm. 127)

Come build your Art Skills. For students needing help or time to work on class projects. Students may use this time for self-directed projects.
Basketball Club – Mr. Jones (HS Gym)
Lebron, KD, Steph. Who's game are you working to emulate? Show off your skills at Basketball Club. It is an opportunity for students to participate in games like; BUMP, 21, one on one, or just improve their individual skills. Students will have a chance to meet during Club Fridays in the high school gym. Come by yourself or challenge a friend to a game of one on one. Please stop by Mr. Jones' room (111) to find out how you can participate.
Bocce Club – Mr. Rucker (Rm. 150)
Bocce is a ball sport belonging to the Boules family, closely related to British bowls and French pétanque, with a common ancestry from ancient games played in the Roman Empire. Developed into its present form in Italy, it is played around Europe and also in overseas areas that have received Italian migrants, including Australia, North America, and South America. Bocce was initially played among the Italian migrants but has slowly become more popular with their descendants and the wider community. Bocci has developed into a fun sport played at barbeques and family gatherings. Be part of the Bocce club and let the good times roll!
BGA - Mrs. Burling (Rm. 120)
BGA - Books Games Anime is a community of individuals who are interested in anime, manga, card/video/board games! This group congregates in a safe setting to enjoy all elements of BGA additionally including fan-fiction, drawing, cosplay, and more. Meetings are fun and low-key and anyone is welcome to join! Book Club - Room 141 - Patty Macheras, teen staff from Blaine Library
Students talk about their ideas for how the book club should run. They may choose to read a book together or just share reviews of books they love. Small group discussions will inspire you to find new books you will love. Interested students can also create and submit book reviews for publication in the Whatcom County Library System Teen Read-On newsletter or Teen Book Vlogs.
Chess Club – Mr. Sayegh (Rm. 130)
Come to Mr. Sayegh's room (130) to play chess Tuesday and Thursday at lunch. Beginners are welcome we'll teach you how to play or help you improve your game.
There is also a Blaine High School Chess Team that is part of the Northwest High School Chess League. Here you will learn how to play a better game and compete against other Whatcom and Skagit county schools.

Club Clothes Closet – Mrs. Balfour (Rm. 116)
Closet Club is a club for the future retail marketers, designers, business entrepreneurs, as well as budding social workers and social activists! We maintain a clothing bank of coats, hats, shoes, shirts, pants, jeans and tons more for students at the high school and their families. Donations are brought in, cataloged, sorted and displayed by students in our club. We have feature sections such as Dance Closet where students can check out clothes and shoes to wear to dances. We also stock class colors and dress up day outfits for all of our Spirit Weeks. We have a huge section of Black and Orange for Borderite Pride Days and we even have a Halloween rack! Club members put in time before and after school as well as on club days to advertise, stock, size and sort new donations. They develop retail experience as well as provide a valuable service to the Borderite community. And the best part is that if you help… you get to have first choice
Cribbage Club/Card Games – Mrs. Surowiecki/Mr. K. Smith (Rm. 140)
Hello Cribbage players. This exciting club is for all skills levels of cribbage play from beginners who want to learn the game to experts who are tournament level. Come and enjoy a great lifetime sport in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Various card games will also be available: UNO, Skip-Bo, Monopoly Deal, standard decks of cards for Go Fish, Crazy Eights, War, Slap Jack, etc. will also be available.
Drama & Theater Arts Club - Mrs. Akers
Each term Fall, Winter, & Spring brings opportunities for student actors, writers, art/costume/make-up designers, and technical crew to work collaboratively to mount a “fully up” production for the PAC or new Little Theater stage! All experience levels welcomed! Fall is our big musical, Winter is our acting focus with State Competition opportunities and working with the younger BES/BPS production, and we finish with our Spring student-produced works (determined by students in the club!)
FBLA - Future Business Leaders of America – Mr. Barthlow (Rm. 145)
FBLA is the Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) associated with Business program which any student can join (you don't need to be in a Business class). It is a national association of nearly a quarter million students interested in becoming more successful in the business world.
Membership dues for FBLA are $20. Membership in FBLA helps you learn about business and gives you the opportunity to see the “real world” through interaction with business leaders. You will not only get the opportunity to “network” with these business professionals; you will have the opportunity to test your business skills in regional and state competitions and hopefully qualifying to compete at the national competition.
FFA – Mrs. Lexin (Rm. 131)
Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, and Living to Serve is the motto and goal of Future Farmers of America. This leadership organization is focused on agriculture education and the skills to be successful in future careers. There are many opportunities for all students to be involved in competitions and scholarships through membership. Students will be involved with activities such as school-wide Homecoming celebrations, Habitat Restoration with Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association, and participation in regional fairs and plant sales, along with many other events.
GLEE Club - Mrs. Wood (Rm. 122)
Glee club is a musical group, which traditionally specializes in the singing of short songs, glees, by trios or quartets. All are welcome
HOSA - Ms. Weeks (Rm 133)
HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA's goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership.
HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions. HOSA is 100% health care!
Knowledge Bowl – Mr. Dahl (Rm. 128)
Description: Knowledge Bowl is a team-based interdisciplinary academic quiz competition, sort of like Trivia Crack only harder. We meet weekly to prepare for 4 tournaments dispersed throughout the fall and winter. If you have a passion for Geography, Science, Math, Literature and/or school in general, turn out and have fun exercising your brain muscles.
Magic/Yu-Gi-Oh/Dungeons & Dragons Club – Mr. Ellis/Mr. Messenger (Rm. 125)
Math Team – Mrs. Gariano (Rm. 126)
Do you really like math? If so, math team is the club for you! Math team consists of 9th through 12th graders in math classes Algebra through Calculus. We meet during lunch on Fridays in room 125 to work on selected problems and explore math concepts further. We attend competitions once a month on Wednesday afternoons where students compete in teams of 3. You do not need to be a math genius to be on math team, you just have to enjoy math and like to have fun. Hope to see you there!
Mindfulness Meditation Club - Room 142
Learn to reduce stress, anger, anxiety, and depression; while improving concentration, mental health, self-awareness, sleep quality, and your immune system through mindfulness meditation. No experience is necessary to gain benefits from meditating. We will learn strategies, and sit for mindful meditation every meeting, and explore handy meditation tools to access on the computer, and your phone to support your personal practice. If you are in multiple clubs, drop-in’s are welcome as you’re available. If you have questions, stop by and see Ms. Laskey.
QSA – Mrs. Bugbee (Rm. 124)
A QSA club is a student-run club that brings together LGBTQI+ and straight students to support each other, provide a safe place to socialize, and create a platform to fight for racial, gender, LGBTQ, and economic justice. We will meet together to organize activism to promote a safe school environment FOR EVERYONE, to empower students with resources and information to mobilize their peers to stand up for safety and equality, and we will work together to make Blaine an accepting place. Everyone is welcome to join; we look forward to seeing you!

Skills USa is a national organization serving high school students in career and technical education training programs. Skills USA's programs help students develop personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics.
SWAP – Mr. Grambo/Mrs. Lexin/Mrs. Roetcisoender (Rm. 131)
Meeting Times: Fridays during Lunch (11:55-12:30)
Students With a Purpose (SWAP) is student-led club focused around the concept of service. It's our mission to serve our school and the greater community through a wide array of projects. Each project is volunteer-based, as well as being loads of fun. Anyone can be a member because anyone can make difference!
Teen Court – Mrs. Alexander (Rm 114)
Whatcom County Teen Court is a program that provides youth offenders an alternative, more meaningful set of consequences for breaking the law. The offenses involved are misdemeanors, and do not include offenses involving weapons, domestic violence or gang activity. The offender admits to the offense, as in traditional diversion, and then goes before a jury of high school students charged with determining the penalties to be assessed. This is not a mock trial. It is part of our Whatcom County legal system and is coordinated by the Superior Court of Whatcom County and Northwest Youth Services.
The court meets from 5:30 to 7(ish) pm on the second Wednesday of each month in the courtrooms of the Superior Court in the Whatcom County Courthouse. The actual court sessions start at 6:00.
Training is required before any student may participate. A formal Teen Court training will happen in September (date to be determined) from 4:45 to 7:00. Dinner will be provided. Monthly meeting times will be determined.
TSA - Technology Student Association –
The Technology Student Association Mr. Nelson/Mr. Dahl (Rm. 147)
is the only student organization devoted exclusively to the needs of students interested in technology. TSA chapters take the study of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) beyond the classroom and give students the opportunity to pursue academic challenges among friends with similar goals and interests. Together, chapter members work on competitive events, attend conferences on the state and national level and have a good time raising funds to get there. Students can compete individually or as a team in such areas as animatronics, biotechnology, engineering design, manufacturing, video, CAD with 3D modeling, desktop publishing, extemporaneous speaking, robotics or scientific visualization.
Blaine’s TSA chapter has won many awards at the state and national level, and is well known locally for sponsoring BHS’s Cancer Awareness Week.
Upstanders United Club: Mrs. Roetcisoender (Room 132)
This club meets monthly on the second Monday for an hour during lunch and BUILD time--you will be excused from your BUILD time to work with this club! The goals of this group are to acknowledge strengths and opportunities to grow by prioritizing mental health and wellness, promoting more unity and a school climate that is respectful and does not tolerate bullying and helping students experience healthy, fulfilling relationships and support. We work closely with the Safe Futures Project, a district-wide group focused on healthy relationships.
Walking Club – Mrs. Robins
In walking club we go out and walk the track on club days, rain or shine, although under certain extreme circumstances (storms), we either walk inside or talk.
Yearbook – Mrs. Wheeler (Rm. 111)
The yearbook production process involves talent, commitment, and an attention to detail. The yearbook staff is a team of students who work together to design, create, organize, and proof a book containing the happenings of our school.
The yearbook club is an after school program, with Mrs. Wheeler as the advisor. We meet every Monday and Wednesday from 3-5pm in room 140. If you play a sport you are still able to be a part of the club, you may join once your season is over. This club involves dedication and responsibility, computer skills, basic photography, the ability to take constructive criticism, work as a team as well as an individual, meet deadlines, and most importantly produce a lasting memory of your high school years.
