become a voice for washington students; board directors wearing red capes

Did you know that positions on our school board are selected by voters in every odd year's general election? We have three open positions that will appear on this November's ballot. Although the election is six months away, this week (May 5-9) is when candidates file with the Whatcom County Elections Division.

Blaine's three open positions are listed below:

Director District #3 - Full Term (4 years)

Director District #4 - Partial Term (2 years)

Director District #5 - Full Term (4 years)

Anyone interested in filing for the election must be a registered voter residing inside the boundaries of the Director District to be represented. Links to Director District boundary maps are provided above and on the Board of Directors web page. The Whatcom County Auditor's Office (360-778-5102) can also verify a voter's Director District. The deadline to file for an open position on the school board is May 9. Visit the Auditor's Candidate Resources web page for important information about running for office.

The Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA) provides important information for prospective board candidates on their School Board Candidate web page. That page includes a link to register for free Virtual Candidate Workshops which will be provided by WSSDA on June 3, 5, 9, and 12. Candidates are encouraged to participate in one of these workshops to gain valuable knowledge about the roles and responsibilities of serving on the school board.
