School board volunteers needed

On Monday, February 26, the Blaine School District Board of Directors took formal action to accept the resignations of fellow board members Ryan Ford, representing Director District 4, and Don Leu, representing Director District 5. The board is now initiating solicitation of interest in the vacated positions.

There are a total of five directors in the Blaine School District, each representing a specific geographical area. Director District 4 is generally located in the areas east of Blaine Road and south to include a large part of Birch Bay, including the Baycrest and Point Whitehorn neighborhoods. Director District 5 is generally located in the areas of Semiahmoo, Selder, and other neighborhoods south of Dakota Creek. Director district boundaries for Blaine School District are available for view on our website.

A letter of interest may be submitted by any person who is a US citizen and registered voter residing within the boundaries of Director District 4 or Director District 5. The letter should be addressed to the Board of Directors and should describe the candidate’s interest in serving on the board, including any prior experience, qualifying factors and their goals as a potential board member. Letters of interest can be submitted by email to comments@blainesd.org or in hard copy to Blaine School District at 765 H Street; Blaine, WA 98230. The submission deadline is 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024.

The Board of Directors will establish a schedule to interview candidates and will ultimately vote on the appointment of two new directors to serve until the next local election in November of 2025. At that time, the appointed directors (and any other interested candidates) may run for election to continue serving for the remainder of their position’s term. The current term of Director District 4 runs through the end of 2027, and the current term of Director District 5 runs through the end of 2025.
