Dr. Granger's Community Message April 16, 2021

Good evening students, staff, families and community,

The concluding 9 weeks of the 2020-2021 school year will begin on Monday. As we enter this next school week, all hybrid learning students (both A and B groups) will be returning to the building for in-person learning every week, and online only students will remain online. The schedule remains Monday-Thursday from 8:20am-12:30pm, with asynchronous remote learning in the afternoons and on Fridays. As we take this next step in adding more learners to the building, and closer to our goal for 2021-2022 of all students in the building every day, here are some key reminders:

  • Complete your student’s Wellness Screening daily by 7:00am.

    • Stay home when sick and communicate with your teacher, campus office and the school nurses (please still complete your Wellness Screening).

  • Bus routes and schedules have changed again. Check Skyward Family Access to verify your student’s bus route and pick-up/drop-off times.

  • Please help us keep everyone safe by only utilizing the drop off and pick up areas that we have had in place.

    • To assist with traffic and student safety, use right turns only when entering and exiting the campus at drop-off and pick-up times.

    • For Elementary School drop-off and pick-up, line up along the curb as you wait to enter the north parking lot, and do not block the traffic lane on Mitchell. When you enter the parking lot, pull forward to the gym to drop off your student. To help move the line expediently, your student should have their Wellness Screening completed (by 7am) and be ready to exit your vehicle quickly.

    • BHS ONLY: Parents picking up their high school students in Grades 10, 11, and 12 in the afternoon should do so in the south parking lot behind the stadium bleachers. Please wait in a parking spot for your student to join you, particularly on Wednesdays to avoid disruption to meal pick up traffic which occurs at that same time.

  • Double check to ensure your contact information is up to date in Skyward Family Access

  • Keep your Hybrid A/B calendar because if community transmission rises to a high level, students in grades 6-12 may return to 6-foot distancing in the classroom setting, returning to the Hybrid A/B schedule.

  • The “Close Contact” definition has not changed. Although students can now sit only 3 feet from each other in class, the definition of a close contact has not changed (i.e. being within 6 feet for 15 or more minutes in a 24 hour period). Parents should be aware that students will be excluded from in-person attendance if they have to quarantine after being in close contact with a positive case. Attending online continues to be an option for students who are in quarantine. It will be as important as ever for students to stay home when they are sick.

Upcoming Events

  • April 19 Student Support Services Q&A: If your student is receiving additional support through programs such as an IEP, 504 or others please join us on Monday, April 19, at 6:00 pm for a Zoom session regarding the work our district has been doing and things ahead.

  • April 26 School Board Meeting: Virtual access to meetings of the Blaine School Board will continue for the duration of the pandemic. Click here to read the protocols for in-person attendance during the pandemic.

It is a great night to be a Borderite, and, as always, a great night to be your superintendent.

Sincerely,

Dr. Christopher Granger
